What does it say?
“The noble soul drinks poison with a smile. Detached and desire-less, he needs no fame or recognition.”
Now this much purushartha (effort) is left for you, drink the poison with a smile. If some day when you have a disagreement with your son and he talks back to you, will you not have to swallow what he dishes out to you, even if it makes you cry? It is not as if you can throw the glass back at him, can you? You have to drink it, do you not?
Questioner: Yes, we have to drink it.
Dadashri: The world drinks it while crying. We should drink it while laughing. That is all it says. The world, while drinking the poison cries, “He did this and he made me swallow this and swallow that.” You already have your inner happiness but when you smile, you get additional psychological happiness. Psychology states ‘If you smile, you will feel happy and (in doing so) you will have your natural happiness. How sweet it is when your own natural happiness and psychological happiness come together? Would it not be sweet?
Questioner: It would be.
Dadashri: And the way the world does it, both become ruined. So what it is telling you to do is, take it with a smile.
